In HPLC systems, it cannot be guaranteed that the injected sample will elute. Although the injection volume is small, a portion of the sample always remains at the column head after each injection, which over time can cause the column head to fail. The various reagents used may also contain insoluble or impure substances. Most insoluble matter can be removed by filtering the mobile phase through a frit or membrane filter, but fine particles may pass through the filter. Additionally, after the mobile phase is prepared, there is a possibility of insoluble or impure substances entering from the air, containers, or human contact. Depending on the analytical purpose, these insoluble or impure substances can contaminate the column, cause blockages, or adversely affect the analysis. Installing a guard column before the analytical column can prevent these issues and protect the chromatographic column. This Scienhome guard column assembly combines the strength of stainless steel with the convenience of a PEEK pre-packed cartridge. Without the need for tools, a short guard column with the same packing material as the column is placed between the injection valve and the chromatographic column, which will extend the column's lifespan and ensure reproducible results.
